An oncoming Eagle

I can't believe it. After so many weeks of planning, trips to Sonoma, calls to people, time taken to announce my Eagle project, and after so much stress MY EAGLE PROJECT IS FINISHED! It's incredible, really it is. One of my biggest concerns was that there weren't going to be enough people that were going to show up to this little shindig but I had 63 people show up and I was also concerned about not getting enough man hours in and according to my dear sweet mother I got 151 man hours completed! And that's just from Saturday, that doesn't even include the amount of planning and preparation that got put into this project. I must say that I am extremely relieved with this Eagle project having been finished.

(For those of you who were at my Eagle project, skip this part)
For those of you who weren't there the following is a list of jobs that were done at my Eagle project:

  • Scraping and repainting the bike racks

  • Painting the curbs of the school

  • Scraping and repainting the bus posts

  • Raking the leaves of the front strip of the school

  • Planting flowers

  • Taking out a giant fern that was blocking drivers' view

  • Raking spiny balls

  • Weeding

  • Edging the back of the school

  • Edging little weeds on the playground

  • Replacing a sign for the bike rack
When it came to getting the jobs for the school an awful stinking lot got changed. I was going to add filling in gopher holes, fixing two benches, and adding cement steps. The thing with the gopher holes was that I couldn't find them on the next trip that I made to Sonoma. So either they got filled in or I just had bad searching skills.

Alright I finally have the pictures of my Eagle project! Here are a few that I've chosen for this blog.

Here are some of the before pictures:

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH Look at the dirty bus post! :O

This is only one part of the curb that was done.

Here are some of the pictures that took place of either people who did things during the project, or did some of the new projects that were needed to be done.

For those that don't know this is my bishop. He's a rather cheerful fellow who is also a hard worker. He only stayed here for 2 hours but he got a lot of good stuff done while he was here.

On the left is my home teaching companion, Brother Taylor. In the middle is my neighbor, Zak Jorgensen who I've known since we went here, and on the right was a kid from Sonoma. One of the things that changed during the project was that the curbs had to be swept before the painting began. These three swept up the entire curb. Kudos to them! :)

The manly Millers! They took out a palm tree that hadn't been noticed until the day of the project. They did it rather quickly too.

Here's my jovial bishop edging the walkway. My neighbor, Eric Vincent, helped him out so he wasn't completely alone.

This is my gardening crew foreman: Brother Vincent.

This was my clean-up crew foreman: Brother Hardy.

And my painting crew foreman: my super awesome brother, Ryan! He was the best foreman ever!

The janitor and his nephew. Sounds like a Chronicles of Narnia book doesn't it? They were here practically the entire time. The plant you see here is the giant weed.

Here are some of the "after" pictures.

Some of the flowers that got planted, courtesy of the Scenic Gardening Club.

After several hours the gardening club, which was comprised mostly of the kids from Sonoma, finally cleaned this part up.

The fruit of Bishop Brooks' labor.

After some work from Dad and the Sonoma janitor, the new sign comes forth.

More flowers. There were 96 (not 92 Mom) flowers.

I decided to have the bus post painted red instead of yellow because Ryan still needed the paint for the bike racks. There were no bureaucratic rules against the coloring of the bus post so I decided to go ahead. This was the penultimate job that got finished.

The last job that got finished. Kudos to Ryan, Becca, and a lot of other workers too!

Yea, the curb gets done!

Here's another good picture that Dad took. This prompted me, in part, to get filling gopher holes as part of the project. It didn't work because I couldn't find this. Where's a rock/frisbee when you need it?

Other things of noteworthy mention that have happened since then:
  • My birthday
  • My birthday celebration
  • General conference
  • Ryan, Becca, and I helped Dad move from his house in Salida and into an apartment by Borders.
  • I finished all 21 merit badges on the day before my birthday
As you all know I am now 18 and I have yet to register to the Republican party, the Selective Services, and register to vote. I ate a crud load of pizza on my birthday, a fact that I take great pride in.

My birthday celebration that Saturday was awesome. Becca made a fabulous cake (Thank you Becca) in the which I still have a lot of leftovers of. I also got to kick Molly's butt on the Wii, along with a friend that I invited to the party. I also got to see "The Robe", an old 1960 movie about a Roman soldier's conversion to Christianity after he gambles for Christ's robe at the Crucifixion. Ryan, Molly, and I also had to read some piece about Judas Iscariot. It was hokey. Overall I got a lot of cash and two Target gift cards.

The Saturday before my birthday week was General Conference, and when Ryan, Becca, and I moved Dad's house. The idea that I missed all of the Saturday sessions of Conference but the priesthood session stinks but not only did I record that, I got to help Dad move his house. I got one heck of a work out and I am currently convinced that I do not want to have any heavy, or big, possessions with me while I'm still moving from house to house. This is a sentiment that I've had since the days of when I first helped Ryan and Becca move from apartment to apartment to basement.

One more thing: on April 7th I got 3 merit badges done. This scared a lot of people, including me. I knew that if I didn't get those merit badges done I wouldn't have my Eagle. I was extremely happy once I those merit badged out of the way.

Well I love you all and I'd like to thank my Mom, my Dad, Ryan, and Becca for their love and support of me while I was getting my Eagle.
Love,
Grant
