Summer post
So much for one's diligence in updating a post! It's been weeks since I wrote my last post. Last week I was on vacation in Utah. The reason why is right below.
That's right, I came for Matthew's wedding. Last Wednesday is when Mom and I left. We left Modesto at about 5:00 in the morning. Our first stop was in Lodi, where we went to Jane's house. Jane is Mom's one and only assistant in her business, and the reason why we were at Jane's house is because Mom was dropping off her car at Jane's. We used Bro. Chandler's car. He's a friend of Mom's don't ask me how they know each other because I don't really know. Anyway Brother Chandler was nice enough to share his stuff with us as we w
ere on our way.
Dad was nice enough to give me a device known as iCarplay wireless. The device is easy enough to use: Plug one end to your iPod, and the other to the cigarette lighter in your car. The middle piece then shows what radio channel that you can tune into and listen to your iPod through.
Anyway, Mom was pretty amazed by this new technology, and I think that it's still pretty cool. So thanks to the iCarplay wireless Mom, Brother Chandler, and I were able to listen to my iPod through the radio. Well, fortunately for us the ride was pretty uneventful. When we got over there Becca had prepared Caesar salads for Brother Chandler and Mom, and they bought a pizza for me. After dinner, and after Mom got Becca and Ryan caught up on what has happened in our lives Ryan and I commenced in a game of Street Fighter 2. Ryan had bought a machine that allows him to play both Super Nintendo and Nintendo games. Unfortunately Ryan beat me at Street Fighter 2, as he said he would do so. Anyway after Ryan beat me we played Super Mario World.
Honestly, both Ryan and Becca are like human cheat codes! They're amazing at that game! Anyway I didn't really care that Ryan kicked my booty at Street Fighter 2, I was just glad that I could actually play with him, which doesn't really happen all that much. Still, now I have an extra aspiration: To beat Ryan more than he beats me at Street Fighter 2.

So that was Wednesday night. On Thursday Mom and I got a tour of the BYU campus.
Our tour guides were cool and nice, and I got a nice set of pamphlets from them that will come in handy if I want to go to BYU.
I learned a lot about the BYU campus, particularly SWKT (the Spencer W. Kimball tower,).
Ironically the tallest building in BYU is named after the shortest president in the Church. So the tour was great and afterwards Mom and I went to a couple of art exhibits in BYU. They were nice, none of the pictures particularly spoke out to me though. So Mom and I went to the Cougreate after the tour. I got pizza.

Moving on, that night Mom, Ryan, Becca and I went to the "Texas Barbeque" and there we, or at least I, seemed to have a family reunion with the Boothe cousins that I have not seen in aeons. I didn't even recognize Aunt Jean, so there we were, I was by the food and Aunt Jean was going to give me a hug and said hi. I said hi back, only I must have had a look on my face that seemed to say "Who are you?" and I also extended my arm as if to shake her hand. Then Mom, who must have been watching us, said as if out of the blue, "Oh go hug your Auntie!" That was when we hugged each other. Somehow I get the feeling that she didn't like the fact that I couldn't recognize her.
Anyway, there was a lot of great food there. That picture of the mashed potatoes was the smaller stack that I consumed. What I mean is that before I had seconds I had already attained a giant batch of mashed potatoes. They were delicious! The sausage was good, the rools were good, the potatoes as you can tell were excellent and there was chocolate cake in which I took no time in devouring. Unfortunately the party had to end quickly simply because of Ryan's commitment to his ward's quartet. You see Ryan was part of a quartet for his ward, and at the time I was pretty darn disappointed at the time and I let Ryan know about it too. The only thing is though now that I look back we weren't really skipping out on anything. Garit and Raquel were going to go to Ryan and Becca's place with us, I was hoping to play Five Crowns.
Anyway it turned out that Becca didn't have a key but Ryan's little rehearsal didn't take to long so we still got to hang out. So Ryan, Garit, and I played Street Fighter 2 for a long time. It was awesome! We each took turns, like that even mattered. I was just happy we were playing. Even after Garit and Raquel left Ryan, Becca, and I were playing Super Mario World. It was fun!

We didn't get any ice cream, although I really wanted a Hot Fudge Brownie sundae. I had garlic fries, a double bacon cheeseburger, and a darn big soda. It was great. So skipping onto Friday night.

They first served us appetizers, which I was careful not to eat that much of. Then after the ringbearing ceremony we were served chicken, vegetables, rolls, potatoes, chicken, creme brulee, (I've never seen so many creme brulees at one place in my life!), and apple juice that looked like alcohol. The bride's family wasn't LDS but it was still foolish to assume why alcohol would be served in an LDS wedding. The picture above was my first helping of food. As Becca put it, "look at all the starches and carbs." Bytheway, I got that picture from Becca's profile on Facebook.

The above picture was the wedding cake. It was a strawberry cake. As you can see there was a lot of pictures taken, mainly by Becca. The food was great, the company was far better than I have had in a long time. Unfortunately though it had to end. So I was leaving with Garit. Oh bytheway, before we went to the reception Garit "showed us around". Basically he showed us the chiropractor's workplace, (Dad's a better chiropractor), which was nice, I guess.

This leaves us with Friday. On Friday morning Mom and I went to the Provo temple. I did Baptisms for the Dead and I literally sat next to someone called Sister Bowser. I'm not even joking and I had to restrain myself not to laugh, although I was still chuckling on the inside. After Mom and I were done we met up with Ryan and Becca and had lunch at a place called Creamery on Ninth.

We didn't get any ice cream, although I really wanted a Hot Fudge Brownie sundae. I had garlic fries, a double bacon cheeseburger, and a darn big soda. It was great. So skipping onto Friday night.

I had plenty a good chat, and food from the reception.

After the reception, Garit took me home. Garit lived in a house upstairs with other people and a family. So I got to sleep on his only bed, he slept on the floor in a sleeping bag (what a cool guy). Actually we played Lord of the Rings Risk.

The green armies above were Garit's, those were the 36. The red armies below were mine, those were the 31.
Yeah he basically beat me. Oh well, I thought that I was a good sport about it, and I was glad that I at least got to play with Garit once again. We stayed up until 2:00 A.M. playing it. It was fun, but it had serious repercussions the next day when we felt sleepy. We didn't do all that much really. We took a hike, which was originally supposed to be in Donut Falls, but Garit couldn't find it, even with directions. So we went along a different trail, one that followed a river.

The following are some of the pictures that Garit and Raquel took. After the hike we (meaning Aunt Lorraine, Aunt Debbie, Grandma and Grandpa Boothe, Garit, and me) had Garit's little pre-paid legal service meeting . We met Garit's partner, who seemed pretty cool, and showed us a video or two of the services. Overall I encourage anybody who reads this post to get pre-paid legal services, as to why, ask Garit. After that we went to Leatherby's, an ice cream shop that also served Mexican food. After that Garit, Raquel, and I went to see Honk, a musical adaptation of "The Ugly Duckling". The reason why is because Garit's roommate Ricky was in it. In both of our opinions Ricky was the best part of the show. After that Garit took me to a place known as Pizzeria Pie. We got a 16 inch pizza that we devoured.
Now as for Sunday, Garit took me to his ward, which was right next to the University of Utah. Here's the order of the meetings in Garit's ward: priesthood, Sunday school, and sacrament meeting. It was weird, yet cool considering that not only did Garit give a great talk but also that Sunday school was pretty interactive. Afterwards we went to Ryan and Becca's house for dinner, since they invited us and because the Nielsens were out of town. You see the original plan was for me and Mom to go to the Nielsens house and stay there until it was time to go home, however for some strange reason the Nielsens were out of town, so we had to stay at Ryan and Becca's. It was fun, Ryan cooked some delicious tacos, and Becca made a great mint cake. This is significant because I'm not a big mint fan myself so to make something minty that I like is no small feat, but Becca did it nonetheless. Anyway, we played Five Crowns, in which Raquel, although she was a beginner at the game, stomped us.
Now to Monday, Mom and I hiked to the Y, no rhyme intended. Mom couldn't do it, but she got close: signpost 7 out of 11. It wasn't that big a deal for me. There was a guy who literally ran up and down the Y. After the hike we went back to Ryan's place where I watched the movie Ghandi. It was good, long and old, but good. I can definitely see why Ben Kingsley got an Academy award for the part of Ghandi, I felt like Ghandi was right there on the screen. Anyway Becca made Mom and I some Mediterranean-like dish that tasted really good; my only regret is that she didn't cook all that much of it. So Mom and I said good-bye to Ryan and Becca as we left.
And on Wednesday we will see them again, thank goodness. Well that's the adventure of the summer of 2008 Mom and Grant Boothe Utah adventure, I hope to see you all soon.
Love,
Grant
